Accompanied Ashes Delivery from Parndon Wood Crematorium to a family in Hertfordshire

22nd May 2026

A personal account of an accompanied ashes delivery from Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium in Harlow, Essex, to Hertfordshire, carried out in partnership with the Westerleigh Group.

Every journey we undertake at Ashes Escorted begins and ends with the same purpose, to ensure that a family's loved one is brought to them safely, with dignity, and in the hands of someone who understands exactly what this moment means.

This is the story of one of our most recent deliveries, carried out in partnership with the Westerleigh Group, the UK's largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries.

Working with the Westerleigh Group and Parndon Wood Crematorium

Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium in Harlow, Essex, is part of the Westerleigh Group, managed in specialist partnership with Harlow Council. Set beside the ancient woodland of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it provides a peaceful and secluded setting for families across Essex and Hertfordshire. It is one of 40+ Westerleigh sites across England, Scotland and Wales, all committed to delivering exceptional care to the families they serve.

We were trusted by the team at Parndon Wood to collect the cremated remains and ensure they were returned to the family personally and with complete care, a responsibility we are always honoured to carry.

The Journey

The cremated remains were personally collected by us from Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium, Parndon Wood Road, Harlow, Essex, with all release documentation carefully checked and signed before departure. From that moment, the ashes were hand carried in full, never left unattended and never passed to a third party.

We travelled with them directly to the family's home in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, ensuring a personal, respectful and secure delivery at what is always a deeply significant moment for any family.

Returning a loved one home

For many families, receiving a loved one's ashes at home is a moment of profound importance. It marks the end of one part of the journey and the beginning of another, a time to grieve, to remember, and to decide together what the final farewell will look like.

We understand the weight of that moment. It is why we never use couriers, never leave ashes with a neighbour or in a doorway, and never treat a delivery as routine. Every delivery is personal, and every family deserves to have their loved one placed directly into their hands with care.

Sitting with the family

What happened after the delivery on this occasion is something we believe sets Ashes Escorted apart from any other service of this kind.

Once the ashes had been safely returned home, we did not simply say goodbye at the door. We sat with the family and we listened.

They told us about their loved one, the things that made them laugh, the places they had loved, the small details that only a family truly knows. Those conversations are not something we plan or script. They happen naturally, because we genuinely care about the people we are entrusted to serve, and because we understand that bringing someone home is not simply a logistical task. It is one of the most human moments imaginable.

Families have told us that having someone take that time, someone who has personally carried their loved one and understands the significance of what they have just done, means more than we will ever know. It is not an add on to our service. It is simply who we are and what we offer.

Why families and Crematoria trust us

Crematoria within the Westerleigh Group and across the UK trust us to carry out deliveries on their behalf because they know that the standards we hold ourselves to match their own. Every collection is documented, every journey is fully accompanied, and every delivery is confirmed personally.

For families, that means complete peace of mind. For the crematoria and funeral professionals we work alongside, it means confidence that the families they have cared for will continue to be cared for every step of the way.

Grief does not follow a schedule

Once the practical arrangements have been made and the ashes have come home, grief can often feel most acute. The quiet that follows is something many families are not fully prepared for, and we know from experience that it can be one of the hardest periods of all.

At Ashes Escorted, we are always here, not just to arrange deliveries, but to listen, to help, and to support wherever we can.

We are here to help

If you need a trusted, fully accompanied ashes delivery anywhere in the UK, we would be glad to help. We work directly with families, funeral directors, crematoria, and solicitors, ensuring cremated remains are hand carried with complete dignity and accountability.
