Accompanied Ashes Repatriation to Dublin - Hand delivered with care
9th April 2026A personal account of a hand carried accompanied ashes repatriation from the UK to Dublin, delivered with compassion, care and complete dedication.
At Ashes Escorted, we are privileged to support families worldwide at some of the most meaningful and difficult moments of their lives. This is the story of one such journey, a fully accompanied ashes repatriation from the UK to Dublin, carried out recently for a family who trusted us to bring their loved one home across the Irish Sea.
When families live far apart
One of the most challenging aspects of bereavement in the modern world is that families are often living across different cities, countries and continents. When a loved one passes away, the practical responsibility of ensuring their cremated remains reach the right place can feel overwhelming, particularly when those who need to receive them are living overseas.
This is exactly where Ashes Escorted can help. No matter where in the world your family is based, we are here to bridge that distance with care, compassion and complete personal accountability. We understand that geography should never be a barrier to bringing a loved one home.
The background
When we were contacted about this journey, the cremated remains were being held at a funeral director in Hertfordshire. The family were based in Dublin and were unable to travel to collect their loved one in person. From the very first phone call, it was clear how much this meant to them and we took the time to listen carefully, to understand their wishes and to reassure them that their loved one would be brought to them safely and with the utmost dignity.
The journey
We personally collected the cremated remains from the funeral director in Hertfordshire, carefully checking and signing all release documentation before departing. From that moment the ashes were hand carried by us for the entirety of the journey, through the airport, on board the aircraft as hand luggage and all the way to the agreed meeting point in Dublin.
Throughout the day we provided the family with flight updates so they always knew exactly where their loved one was and when to expect us. We understand how important that reassurance is, particularly on a day that carries so much emotional weight.
The delivery
We met the family at Dublin Airport at the agreed meeting place and took the time to sit with them, to talk about their loved one and to offer a compassionate and unhurried space for them to share their memories and their grief. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. Handing over a loved one's ashes is simply never a task, it is one of the most significant moments in a family's grief journey, and one we approach with the deepest respect and sensitivity.
The feedback from this family was humbling and is something we carry with us on every journey we make. You can read their words on our testimonials page.
Grief does not end with the Funeral
We have come to understand deeply through our service that grief does not follow a linear path. For many families, particularly for those living apart from one another, the period following the funeral can be one of the most isolating and difficult times of all. When the busyness of arrangements subsides and life around them becomes quieter, the weight of loss can feel more intense than ever.
At Ashes Escorted we are always here to listen. Whether you have questions about the repatriation process, need guidance on documentation, or simply need someone to talk to about your loved one and what this final journey means to you, we will always make time. We believe that every family deserves to be heard.
