Accompanied Ashes Delivery to Aerial Ashes Christchurch | Drone Scattering Ceremony

17th May 2026

A personal account of an accompanied ashes delivery to Aerial Ashes in Christchurch, supporting a unique and beautiful drone scattering ceremony carried out with dignity care and compassion.

At Ashes Escorted, every journey we undertake carries with it a profound sense of privilege and responsibility. This is the story of one of our most recent journeys, an accompanied ashes delivery to Aerial Ashes Ltd in Christchurch, Dorset, where a family had chosen a truly unique and memorable way to say goodbye to their loved one.

Working with Aerial Ashes, Christchurch

This delivery allowed us to continue our work with Aerial Ashes, based at The Grove in Christchurch, Dorset. Aerial Ashes are the UK's leading provider of drone ashes scattering ceremonies, offering families a beautiful, dignified, and deeply personal alternative to traditional scattering methods. Founded by former RAF pilot Christopher Mace and now led by Matt Young, Aerial Ashes have perfected their process over many years, carrying out ceremonies at stunning locations across England, Scotland and Wales, over land and sea.

We were delighted to support their work by ensuring the cremated remains arrived safely, securely, and with the full care and accountability that this moment deserved.

A Different Kind of Farewell

When families begin to think about what to do with a loved one's ashes, the options can feel limited. Aerial Ashes offer something genuinely different. Using specially designed drones, they carry cremated remains high into the air before releasing them in a gentle, controlled and visually stunning dispersal. Families gather below, watching as their loved one is carried upward and away, a send off that is as moving as it is unique.

For the family we supported on this journey, this ceremony represented a perfect reflection of their loved one's spirit and the farewell they deserved. It was our privilege to play our part in making it possible.

The Journey

The cremated remains were personally collected by us from Cam Valley Crematorium in Saffron Walden, Essex, with all release documentation carefully checked and signed before departure. From that moment, the ashes were hand carried for the entirety of the journey, never placed in a bag in an overhead locker, never left unattended, and never passed to a third party.

We travelled with them directly to Aerial Ashes in Christchurch, where the team were ready to receive them with the same level of care and professionalism that families deserve at every stage of this process. Knowing that the ashes would move seamlessly from our hands into theirs gave us, and the family, complete confidence that everything would be handled with the respect it warranted.

The Ceremony

Aerial Ashes offer families a truly comprehensive ceremony experience. As well as the drone scattering itself, they can provide live streaming for family members who are unable to attend in person, a video keepsake to treasure, and a fully personalised ceremony tailored to the individual. Families can choose their location, include music, readings, or simply gather quietly as the drone ascends.

It is the kind of service that reminds us how much thought, care and creativity now exists within the memorial sector and how meaningful the right farewell can truly be.

When Distance Separates Families from a Ceremony

One of the reasons families contact us is that they are simply unable to transport the ashes themselves. Whether through distance, logistics, or the weight of grief, the practical responsibility of moving a loved one's cremated remains can feel overwhelming. That is exactly where we come in.

We provide a fully accompanied, hand carried delivery service across the UK, ensuring that wherever a ceremony is taking place, whether a traditional interment, a scattering at sea, or a drone ceremony with Aerial Ashes - the cremated remains arrive safely, with dignity and with complete accountability.

Grief Does Not End with the Funeral

We have come to understand deeply through our work that grief does not follow a schedule. For many families, the period following the funeral can be one of the most isolating and difficult times of all. When the busyness of arrangements subsides and life becomes quieter, the weight of loss can feel more intense than ever.

At Ashes Escorted, we are always here to listen. Whether you have questions about our delivery service, need guidance on what happens next, or simply need someone to talk to about your loved one and what this final journey means to you, we will always make time.
